10 October 1687 Whereas William Kitchin servant to Isaack Godding hath by his own Confession absented himselfe from his said Masters by Runing away att severall times, Ten monthes and twenty dayes, Itt is therefore order[ed] that the said Kitchin serve his said Master Godding after his first Indentured time or Custome of the Country bee Compleated & served out, the full term of twenty one Monthes and twelve dayes being Duble the time hee was Runaway, And alsoe to serve two monthes more for Charges his said Master paid in Lookeing after him att times when hee was gon. Joseph Ring of the abovesaid County, and by the above said Runaways Confession hath beene Run away six dayes, and that shee was taken up above 12. miles from her said Mastrs. house, A Certificate is therefore granted the sd Willm Booth Pattisson, according to Act, Dated under my hand this 9th. day of Octobr. 1686. Deposed & Saith Tha[t] Comeing from fishing putting into Francis Penrices, there was two Runaway Negroes, the which Negroes after Enquirey, said they were intised away by a seaman belonging to Capt. Ryder and being night Francis Penrice Constable did secure the said Negroes in his house by makeing fast his Doores to ye. best of his power and in the Night wee found the Dores open, and ye. Negroes gone, upon which I awaked ye. Constable and told him the Negroes was gon, and wee found had taken sume Cloaths with them, and Immeadiatly wee went to ye. Deposed and Saith That Francis Penrice Constable of the Lower pcints of Pocoson Parish having two Negroes brought to him which was intised away by a seaman belonging to Capt. Ryder as the Negroes did Confesse, the said Penrice did Enquire of me for York Constable, I told I Knew noe other but mr. Francis Read, and likewise did say I thought itt to Late to goe thither being Just upon sun sett, upon which the sd. Penrice Carryed the Negroes to his owne house againe, and further saith nott. Itt is therefore ordered that the said Timothy Hargurthie serve his said Master or order [illeg] after his first Indented time or Custome of the Country be Compleated and served out, the full time of one hundred & Eight dayes being Doble the time hee was runaway and alsoe three Monthes more being for two hundred pounds of tobacco, his said Master was out in Lookeing after him in the time of his absence.
